There are a gajillion parent blogs out there and so many of them are so good that my Google Reader is packed full of things I (try to) read every single day. What I think the big old lovey blogo is missing is a surge of phenomenal pregnancy blogs. To me, a pregnancy blog heaves itself up to phenomenal status as long as it is not a big list of dates, times, measurements and ailments without anything else to nibble on, a la "Week 27, Day 4, Hour 17: The little peach fetus has officially become a small cantaloupe fetus. I can't wait to meet this baby! The doctor measured my belly blahblahblah...hemorrhoids, heartburn, varicose veins, daddy's little girl already has a ton of pink clothes!...blahblahblah."
You know the posts I mean, right? Like all the details the blogger's single friends and cousin with seven kids are totally tired of hearing about but need to be released to the world (oh wait, that's all blogs...oh well). Fortunately, there are some anti-blahblah pregnancy blogs. One of the more phenomenal is Storked!, an engaging, funny, honest, very real blog about one woman's accidental adventure into growing a human being.
Storked! is written by Christine Coppa, a twentysomething who uprooted herself from her shi-shi NYC life to move back home to the 'burbs with her parents as she prepares for the birth of her baby. What I love is that Christine puts it all out there with no shame and with a lot of fire, refusing to make the bump in her belly into a bump in the road. So far, my favorite bit goes something like this: "I’m pretty tough, so go on, called me a knocked up ho if you want.
Because I know I’m not. Neither is Bridget Moynihan (who I absolutely
love and admire for having a baby alone while her ex goes out with a
supermodel) or anyone else like us-we’re just single and pregnant (and so happy)!"
No matter how packed my feed reader is, there's definitely room for Storked!. Take a nice, long look because I think you'll want to welcome Christine into your bloggy world, too. And speaking of your bloggy world, what other great preg posts have you read lately?
