  On my post about errors about the natural world in kids books, a few people piped up to say that the social biases in kids books bother them more—stupid fathers, prissy girls, everyone white, etc. I wish it were as easy to dispatch those with a simple top ten list, but they're far more insidious and numerous. • Post-Election, Women Hate Sexism Almost as Much as Feminism

  A recent survey on post-election attitudes to sexism reveals that a majority of Americans live in La La Land. For starters: While most men don’t believe there is gender bias in the media or at home, almost half (4 in 10) “freely admit to having sexist attitudes towards a female president.” Espousing similarly mind-boggling contradictions, the vast majority of women believe that Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton were treated unfairly by the media—but would be mortified to call themselves “feminists.” Read More... • America's Main Problem? Men Are Oppressed

  Normally I’m not one to draw more attention to the Ann Coulters of the world—people who get famous by writing books making the most inane, controversial arguments they can think of. But this Jezebel rant on one such book is so much fun, I’d thought I’d share. I believe Kathleen Parker's intelligence level is pretty clear from the book cover pictured. The provocative subtitle, mysteriously written in all lower case letters, is, "why men matter; why women should care." Unfortunately, this is not a witty spoof of the most ridiculous book topic ever.  Read More...
