• Women Not Having It All, Having It All, Had Enough

  Meg Wolitzer has a new novel called "The Ten-Year Nap". It's about moms, mostly moms who left the workforce to stay at home with kids. It sounds good, and she says, "In fiction, stay-at-home moms have often been [subject to] mockery, and I think it's very sexist: the stay-at-home mother whose children are oversubscribed, who has reduced her entire brain to trivial things." We can totally use some better depictions of SAHMs. But I have to speak to the fact that once again, we are gonna get a small wave of "Can women have it all?" headlines and I'm over it. • The (Technical) Making of a Live Birth

  I've never been on the business end of a birth, having only witnessed my own babies being born and, well, I'm guessing things look different from the top. • Expanding the Parenting Lexicon: Absurd Words

  Parenting is a funny business, or can be, with sufficient amounts of irony and several servings of alcohol daily (or a general peace and centeredness, but wine is considerably less time-consuming).  So we had some fun at StrollerDerby today throwing around some new vocabulary words that describe certain aspects of parenting: Laquandry = When you have no idea how such small people generate so much laundry. Mominator = When Mommy has had it with the whining crying and demanding and takes BACK the power. Angrousal = When your anger at your spouse turns into arousal, after the kids go to bed. Communibody = The way many mamas feel when they have are nursing, toting tots, feeding and clothing small people, and still are asked to respond to midnight requests for special attention. Smellstery = When you have no idea where that smell is coming from. Whatthefuh = What you say when you step on a sharp toy in the dark.  Have any to add?
