California lawmakers
are currently pushing bills in both the state Assembly as well as the
Senate, to make umbilical cord blood easier to collect and more
affordable to donate for medical research. Cord blood contains large
quantities of immature but adaptive cells, the study of which could be
the key to treating blood diseases like leukemia and
sickle cell anemia, among others.
