I still remember the delight with which I first read Madeleine L'Engle's
"A Wrinkle in Time." For one thing, protagonist Meg Murry's last name
was suspiciously similar to my own, and although I didn't have an
intransigent little brother named Charles Wallace, I could have
been part of that family, couldn't I? The science, the mystery, the
genius, the precociousness, I mean, I had it all! I was reading about
my life!
Well, close anyway. But it was that kind of
storytelling, that kind of originality and creativity, that made
Madeleine L'Engle's books loved by so many children and adults alike.
