I had kids, I think I always hoped I would have little prodigies, like
ten-year-old Moshe Kai Cavalin, who's finishing up his sophomore year
at East Los Angeles College. It seemed the epitome of parenting
success, the ultimate validation, to watch your child accumulate an A+
average, tutor students twice as old as he is, and embark on a career
in astrophysics marked (Moshe hopes) by his proving the existence of
wormholes.
I'm sure Moshe's parents are extremely proud of him,
as they should be. And if any of my kids turn out to be prodigies
(unlikely at this point), I'll be proud of them. But mostly, I'll be
worried.
