  If your last name is Obama, you may start getting special treatment, even if you aren't related to the President-elect. The Washington Post reports that 28-year-old DC resident Nicanor Obama was pulled over for speeding. But when the can't-drive-55 guy handed over his driver's license, the police officer told him, "Well, I'm going to let you go because you have the Obama name." I’d say most parents dream about getting to take their kids someplace spectacular at least once in their life. • Poor Kids Face Hungry Summers

  For too many kids, school is the only place they can be guaranteed a good meal every day – a situation that is sure to get worse as more families get squeezed by skyrocketing prices on food and gas and rising unemployment. In summer, though, those kids are not in school and so aren’t getting the nutrition they need. During the summer, fewer than one in five get the free or reduced price lunches they are entitled to year round. School officials in many cities find ways to get kids to come to school during the summer just so they can be fed, and parks and recreation summer programs and church groups also help pick up the slack. • Family-Friendly Peace March on the Pentagon This Saturday

  Anti-war protestors have scheduled a peace march on the Pentagon this Saturday, March 17. That day will be the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq, and 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of the 1967 march to the Pentagon in protest of the Viet Nam conflict. Along with demanding an end to the war, the march will include rallies calling for the impeachment of the President. Peace marches are often anything but peaceful and not necessarily a safe place for children, but organizers will be setting up special children's activities including sign-making stations, and anti-war balloons will be available (the war on bird-killers, apparently, will have to wait). Several student and other youth groups are expected to have a presence at Saturday's march, which is projected to draw hundreds of thousands of participants.
