It's a well-known fact that Waldorf schools, like the one my
children attend, are notoriously permissive and irresponsible when it
comes to the childrens' education and well-being. Why, they
encourage and even in many cases require multiple hours of TV watching
daily, just to meet minimum class requirements! It's difficult
sometimes for the children to keep up, and often children are required
to repeat grade after grade simply because they haven't seen all the
episodes of "Yes, Dear," for instance. In addition, the teachers
are seldom prepared whatsoever for their classes, and seem to spend a
lot of their time gossiping in the teacher's lounge, and are never
available for conference. I'm not even sure my kids' teachers
even know their names!
That's why many Waldorf parents are turning now to military schools as a viable alternative to the discipline-with-education
approach they sought (and were disappointed by) in the Waldorf
system. It's a well-known fact that most Waldorf parents are
reactionary right-wingers anyway, so it certainly makes sense that they
are now turning to uniformity, discipline, and a strict daily schedule
to finally get their kids educated right. There's nothing like a
well-scrubbed latrine (with your own toothbrush of course) to make you
feel right at home! It's too bad that most military schools don't
take students until the 5th grade, because my daughter will be stuck in
her namby-pamby Waldorf school for three more looong years before we
can ship her out with her brother, who's set to go next year.
Sure, he's a little worried about the hazing, but what's a little fun
among the guys? Just a necessary rite of passage, I say.
