First Daughter Jenna Bush, 25, has a new book coming out this fall. Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope, is about a single, teenage mother living with HIV in modern day Panama. Jenna says her book is not political, but rather an attempt to deal with the issues that HIV positive teens face, including exclusion from their peers, and discrimination.
The proceeds from Ana's Story will go to UNICEF, for whom Jenna has been working - as an unpaid intern - for the last six months, in Panama. The book, which will be marketed to teens, is part of Jenna's and UNICEF's combined effort to "put a face" on the thousands of minors living with HIV, and extreme poverty, in South and Central America
A book tour and UNICEF internship should go a long way towards eradicating Jenna's girl-gone-wild reputation - or so she hopes. Because "I care what people think about me... I think they would disagree [with her label as a party girl]." she says. Still, Jenna is quick to point out that the book is not about her, but about the people she has met in Latin America. "Through their stories, it is my hope to motivate young Americans to
increase their awareness of other young people around the world: to
learn about the challenges they face, how they triumph over adversity,
and to become involved in helping them."
