  • 'In the Motherhood' Gets Partial Cut

After all the hoopla about the "In the Motherhood" premiere, it appears that ABC isn't 100 percent confident in the show's long-term success.

According to the L.A. Times, the day after the one-time Web series's premiere on primetime television, ABC execs cut its episode order in half, from 13 down to seven.

"Motherhood" earned a 4.6 Nielsen rating and a 7 share, meaning 4.6 percent of U.S. households were tuned in, and 7 percent of all turned-on televisions were locked into ABC when the comedy aired Thursday at 8 p.m. That put it in third place for its timeslot, behind "American Idol" (shocker) and the NCAA Tournament on CBS.

Clearly going up against "Idol" and basketball put "In the Motherhood" in an unfair position. The "Idol" results show usually airs on Wednesdays (it aired Thursday this week because Obama's primetime press conference on Tuesday messed with the show's schedule), and the tourney is a temporary event. Which raises the question: Did ABC execs respond too hastily here?

  • LIVE BLOGGING: In the Motherhood Premiere

Are you ready? We better be - we've been buzzing all week at Babble about the new show In the Motherhood over at ABC, and it's about to start - 8 Eastern/7 Central. So turn on your TVs and tune in to ABC.

But keep your computers on! We're going to be live blogging the show, so come back at the commercial breaks to hear what we have to say and weigh in on what you're thinking!

OK - let me list how many of those "real life" motherhood moments I've been there for:

    1. Walking into that house - the dog, the screaming . . . check

    2. Calling my girlfriends for a glass of wine after said screaming. .. check

    3. Convincing my child to like doing laundry . . . er, no, not my house. Can they send those kids over?

    Any of these ringing bells?

I've been waiting for this show to see just how real-life it was going to be, and I've been telling everyone I was psyched for an all-parent TV show. I was telling the truth . . . sort of.

I was really just waiting to see Megan Mullally try to play someone other than Karen (you know, Will & Grace drunkos who made us watch even when Grace whined?). And, maybe it's just me, but she IS still Karen - only Karen the way she would be if she had kids, and a bunch of girlfriends who were actually . . . girls. Yay! And she's totally right - pregnant women have all the perks.

Which is why I'm more the Cheryl Hines character - the "normal" one (is it sad that I use quotes for normal and still associate myself with it?). And Jessica St. Clair is my archnemesis.

    So which mom are you?

  • Leah Remini to Star in Web TV Show: "In the Motherhood"

Leah Remini,  King of Queens star and mother of two is set to star in a new web TV Show and multi-media venture: In The Motherhood, which includes a website and community for moms (doesn't everything have a community for moms now?).  The five-episode web television show will appear in small segments during the Ellen Degeneres Show and will be based on the stories submitted by viewers/In the Motherhood blog participants.

Within 30 seconds of beginning the sign-up process I was asked for my name, birthdate, and cellular carrier, a rather unsisterhoodlike sensation.  The motherhood brotherhood, more like.  My gut reaction was "Is everything for sale?" Kind of ironic given that's the exact rebuke aimed at hipster parents and the like.

Hollywood screenwriters will develop the characters and story lines for each episode of "Motherhood," based on the stories voted the best entries at the site. Online visitors will be asked to submit their experiences on such topics as "your child's worst public meltdown, your child's funniest potty training story and your funniest mother-in-law child-rearing advice."

Hmmm. I wonder if any of these folks could come to my house and turn last week's stomach flu into a sight gag and some cackles.
