I always thought Canadians had a sense of humor. After all, this is the nation that gave us Dan Akroyd, Jim Carrey, John Candy, and Mike Myers. Sure, they also gave us Howie Mandel but, for the most part, they always struck me as a good-humored nation. Well, it turns out that certain things get their flannel all in a twist. One of those things? Seeing little kids getting the crap beaten out of them in a good old-fashioned pillow fight!
In a hilarious commercial for the Toronto Blue Jays, the team's gian-sized designated hitter Frank Thomas is seen interrupting a pillow fight among his children by swinging his own pillow at them hilariously. However, the Canadian authorities didn't seem to find the commercial as funny as everyone else and declined to air it on television.
Some Canadians aren't happy about this. "I think we are taking ourselves a little too seriously if we're saying a pillow fight cannot air because it's viewed as too aggressive, or Frank's too big versus a small child," said Laurel Lindsay, vice-president of marketing for the Blue Jays. "It's ridiculous. I can't shrink Frank and nor would I try to make the child grow. That's sort of the life of the [commercial], seeing the two interact. It was disappointing for sure. Surprising, I think, would be the ultimate word."
Here's the commercial. What do you think? Are our Northern neighbors making much ado about nothing? Or not?
