• C Rod Files For Divorce

  Cynthia Rodriguez has clearly decided that Madonna is, well, full of it. Or maybe she just doesn't like being called "C Rod". Whatever the reason, she's filed for divorce in Miami, according to ESPN.com/Associated Press. The filing says that A-Rod "emotionally abandoned his wife and children…The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct." Note that it says "affairs" and not "affair". Assuming Madonna is lying when she says the two are just drinking buddies rather than Kabbalah Kanoodlers, there are at least two (let us not forget his dalliance with stripper Joslyn Noel Morse.) • Who is babysitting the Kid-Rods?

  At least some part of the A-Rod/Madonna/C-Rod/Lenny Kravitz bizarre love square is true (C-Rod is the new name for Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of Alex, in case you didn't know). Kravitz denies that he and Mrs. Rod are having an affair, and the fact that he reportedly isn't even in Paris lends some credibility to that claim. But Cynthia is definitely in The City of Light, and the New York Post has the photo to prove it. PLUS she isn’t wearing her $150,000 engagement ring. • Lou Gehrig Day on July 4th

  July 4th is also a special day for baseball fans. July 4th, 1939 was "Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day." Gehrig, who earned the nickname "The Iron Horse" for playing in 2,130 consecutive games (a record broken by Cal Ripken, Jr. in 1995), had become seriously ill and was forced to retire from playing. • Family Movie Night: Everyone's Hero

  My oldest son shows little interest in baseball, and I've started to accept the fact that he probably will never join me in rabid Yankee fandom. His love of this film, though, gives me a little bit of hope that he may still develop an interest in America's pastime (which it really isn't anymore, but why spoil a cliché?) • Mets player thanks wife by letting her have his baby

  Ryan Church plays right field for the New York Mets. He's having a great year so far, with a .310 batting average, 8 home runs and 30 RBIs. One reason is that, despite having just become a father a couple of months ago, he's getting enough sleep. In an interview with the New York Times, Church seems to be saying that he figures letting his wife have his baby is thanks enough for getting up in the middle of night with the newborn. • Ballpark Perks for Parents Rock (or Rox)

  There are few things I enjoy as much on a summer afternoon as a good baseball game. I admit to being more of a cultural fan than someone who has the slightest idea what the infield fly rule actually is, as I tend to be there more for the atmosphere and excitement than the actual game play. But sipping a cool drink under the warm sun, watching nine innings go by is one of the best ways I can think of to spend time in the nice weather.   Before you go and shell out big bucks for your naming consultant, make a check out to me for this little gem: Don't name your kid something starting with 'C' or 'D'. And if you hope to raise a slugger, steer clear of names starting with 'K' (cuz that's how strikeouts are recorded.) According to this article, people have an affinity for the letters in their own names, especially their initials. • Baseball and Babies: A Season of Neglect?

  I took Emmeline to her first baseball game when she was just a few weeks old. Check out the picture there on the right. (No, not the creepy baseball doll -- keep going, scroll down a bit. Bingo!) That's us. At the ballpark. Her first game. You might be able to see a tiny bit of her head. I introduced her early to my passion -- baseball. And she gave me a glimpse of her own -- napping. It was easy last season. She could nap in a sling or in my arms or with any friendly usher while I went for beer. But this season, it's a different story.   First there was Terrell Owens' tome about proper Sharpie use. Then came Barry Bonds' how-to guide on syringes. Now, A-Rod is getting into children's books, too. His story, "Out of the Park," is about a boy who does great things throughout the regular season but ultimately chokes in the playoffs. Wonder where he got that idea? OK, OK, so it's not about that. • Future Hall-of-Famer Mike Piazza a New Dad!

  As a life-long Mets fan, I've always had a soft spot for Mike Piazza.  Here's a guy drafted in the 62nd round whom nobody in a million years would ever even make into the major leagues.  He then proceeds to shock everyone by becoming the best power-hitting catcher in baseball history, a sure-fire future Hall of Famer, and one the sport's greatest superstars.  This week, Mike Piazza hit a new milestone in his life, becoming a first-time father!  Nicoletta Veronica Piazza was born in New York City over the weekend.  Congratulations to the Piazza family.  We all know you can hit the changeup, Mike, but can you change a diaper?
