I gotta laugh that they put Euless, TX on the list...I guess I don't know as much as I thought I did about that city...but around here, everyone calls it Useless.

I'm with ya on that one, Sara. I'm from that area...I'm surprised AUSTIN isn't on the list! The ONLY place to live in Texas.

Gaithersburg, MD: Uh, as a former resident, WTF? I guess if you're trying to raise your kid with an appreciation for the finest in strip malls and bottlenecks and uncontrolled suburban sprawl, it's simply faboo. Now Burlington, VT, I can stand behind....

Jacksonville NC??? Tattoo parlours, strip malls, a million young military boys doing what young military boys do (think daughters). What about Asheville, NC - beautiful Smoky Mnts, artsy, progressive, fantastic!

Ditto on Jacksonville! What???  I'll put a plug in for Durham, NC - state parks, rivers, Duke Gardens, short drive to mountains or beach, Full Frame Doumentary Film Festival, American Dance Festival, thriving Farmer's Market and good kid-friendly music scene.

Anyone who takes their parenting advice from Business Week ... well I'll stop there.  They did, after all, describe Greenwich Conn. as having an "abundance of cultural amenities".  Forgive my urban bias...but, um, .... yeahhhhh rrrriiiiiggggghhhhhtttt

Virgnia Beach over Charlottesville?  No way.  They may have a beach, but they also have a pretty seedy side.  Cville rocks!

Malden, MA is a joke, as is Pawtucket, RI.  who compiled this?  ridiculous!

Well, Eagan, MN is a distant suburb of two fabulous (and very safe) cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul. I can see why living in the Twin Cities metro area would be a great place to raise children, but Eagan has to be the dullest choice of all the places - strip malls, miles of track homes, SUV central. If you want your kids to be bored out their minds, Eagan...excuse me while I yawn...is the place to raise them.

Growing up in the Northeast, I had to shake my head at Nashua, NH and Pawtucket, RI.  Huh?  (No offense to anyone who lives in those cities!)

I gotta give an eyeroll to Bellevue, WA, a completely car-based community is good for kids?  I guess they can learn not to get run over faster than if lived a more pedestrian friendly area.

Malden on the list makes me laugh!  Business Week was PAID to say this.  I live in Malden and can't even take my son to the playground because of drug dealing and vandalism.  Why can't we have responsible journalism that we can trust?

Bend, Oregon, is really pretty, but only kid-friendly if you are rich.  Wealthy Californians are retiring there in droves and driving up the housing prices like mad, so middle-income families don't have a shot at living in nicer neighborhoods.  And unless you go with private schools, you're stuck in the public school assigned to your neighborhood, so seedy neighborhood = not-so-hot school.

According to their criteria I am surprised my town isn't on the list. I live in Harrisburg PA and we share many of the things that put other cities on the list; low crime, museums, average median income of about 50,000 a year, low home prices, a baseball team, city shops, short distance to DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia, good schools and surrounded by college towns. But I guess Pittsburgh beat us which is fine with me. Personally I think the best place to raise a child isn't the city anyways, we would really like to move back to my boyfriend's hometown which features a very high median income, very low home prices, awesome schools, 3 local universities including one that is very affordable, great diversity and it is the smallest county in PA, it is also only 3 hours from NYC.

Ann Arbor, Michigan is a nice area, but it's a college town. (University of Michigan). Great school; great town. I don't know if I would really call it a great town to raise kids in. The town next to it(Ypsilanti) is like the ghetto of Ann Arbor.

Now, Saline and Milan, Michigan would be great places to raise kids. Small area, great schools.

i agree somehow about burlingon vermont but the thing is that there are no jobs around so how would a single mom be able to raise a kid if there is not much job offers in the area and also burlington and montpelier are the only places where you can find jobs ... without mentionning the 6 months of cooold weather and a loooot of snow .. i m looking into relocating somewhere safe and warm but i still can't make up my mind... irvine california looks really nice weather wise and there are no crimes but it looks very expansive for rent ...the rent start at around 1500$ for 2 bedrooms ...

Paradise, Nevada???? I lived in Nevada most of my life never heard of the place except for zip 89119 so I looked it up sure enough it was right next to McCarran airport. Try Las Vegas, NV. If you want your children learning spanish from all the Illegal immigrants that took over the neighborhood I'm sure it would be perfect. Failed to mention crime had

rose in that neighborhood alone by 30% since little Mexico took over..
