Kid Named Hitler Taken From His Parents By Family Services

Posted by Brett Singer

Adolf Hitler Campbell and his sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, have been removed from their home by Family Services. You can't make this stuff up, folks.I bet you thought we'd never hear any news about this family again. Or maybe you just hoped you'd never hear from them again. Or maybe that was me. I get us confused sometimes.

Anyway, for reasons that are not being disclosed at this time, 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell was removed from his home by the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services. Adolf's sisters, 1-year-old JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, and the comparatively normal-named 8-month-old Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, were also removed by authorities.

As far as I know, it's unusual for Family Services not to give a reason to the public when kids are taken from their parents. According to the Daily News, "Holland Township police chief David Van Gilson told the site they had not received any reports of abuse or negligence." Which makes this even stranger.

In case you've forgotten, the Campbells' received some fame in December when a store refused to make a cake for little Adolf Hitler. At the time, the father, Heath Campbell, said, "They're just names, you know. Yeah, they (the Nazis) were bad people back then. But my kids are little. They're not going to grow up like that."

The swastikas that decorate the Campbell home, and the fact that they are reported Holocaust deniers, tells a different story. (Post-racial America? Um, I don't think so.)

We don't know the details yet, but the parents were scheduled to attend a hearing on Tuesday to discuss their children which "was apparently postponed", according to the News. So something is definitely going on.

That said, I’m not sure if being a Nazi lunatic is illegal. If it were, wouldn't Hutton (Mel's dad) Gibson be in jail?

UPDATE: Here is a video report via Yahoo! News. Listen to the reporter say the kids' names.

Maybe because they named their child Adolf Hilter?  I'm not a fan of jerks who screetch "CHILD ABUSE" over any parenting decision that differs from their own, but that name is going to cause him endless problems until he's able to change it, and by then I'm afraid the damage will have been done.  Naming your son Adolf Hilter is damn close to abuse in terms of how it will impact every single social interaction of his life.

I have to admit that I hope there will be a reason the kids can't be returned to them. I know that would be very hard on the kids, so I probably shouldn't feel that way. Still, I consider the parents to be worthless shit, and it would just suck if those 3 little innocents end up like them.

As Jefferson famously said about free speech: "monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated when reason is free to combat it."

Especially as a Jew, does it make me happy that these people have named their child Adolf Hitler?  Absolutely not.  But do I think that that alone should be grounds for removing the child? Also not.  Americans have the freedom to be idiots.  We have the freedom to be racists, religious fanatics, misogynists, homophobes - and to raise our children to be the same.  I am hoping there is more to the removal of these children then their hateful names.

Does that mean they are going to start removing kids from parents who are stupid enough to name them Nevaeh? Or maybe the children of supporters of Prop. 8? Or are they only allowed to round up the kids of anti-semitic bigots?

Treespeed, I feel your paranoia - if there isn't actual abuse or neglect, removing the children is a travesty.  They are certainly bigoted jerks, but if the children are being cared for it's terrifying that they could be removed for that reason alone.  My kids watch a lot of TV/movies and my 2.5 year old still sleeps with a pacifier - should I be worried about the state coming for them?

I really hope there's a "good" reason for this.

Regarding the  "...comparatively normal-named 8-month-old Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell", I have a sneaking suspicion that they were trying to name her after Himmler, but are (prepare to be shocked) a wee bit ignorant, even about their beloved Nazis.

News source says the removal has nothing to do with the kids' names (and yes, Honszlynn Hinler was so named to honor Himmler, according to another source I read and no longer remember):

While a horrible name is not a reason to remove children from a loving, supportive, safe and nurturing home, I'm gonna go out on a limb here. If you would name your kid Adolph Hitler, Arayan Nation, and yes I think it was supposed to be Himmler, cover your house in swastikas, and wear boots that you claim once belonged to a Nazi solider (see the orignal article), that the odds are you have problems bigger than having bad taste in names. I don't think it's making to big a leap to think that the reason is not the names, but the conditions in that family.
