Freaking and Shrieking: Christmas Morning Video
There’s nothing like those wide eyes on Christmas morn, the sweet smile spreading across that little face, the exclamation of “this is what I always wanted!”
Warning: this video of a Canadian kid getting a Wii on Christmas morning is nothing like that that. The boy’s parents pull his present out of a bag, and apparently unwrap it (the lack of tearing noises made me wonder if this was staged until I realized they didn’t bother really wrapping it – no wonder the kid freaks out!) and Dad does the excited “it’s the Wii!” pronouncement.
The son, on the other hand? He looks shocked for a handfull of seconds before he starts shrieking. Not screaming excitedly. Shrieking – like some bad Meatloaf album title.
All of this is followed by maniacal laughter and a relative asking “are we on steroids buddy?” About the only thing that screamed normal kid about this video was the over-the-top grin on command at the end.
My daughter’s three (and thus too young for a Wii), but if she acted like this, I think I’d be more tempted to send her to her room to blow off that steam than to keep filming. But then, we’re still at the age where the mere fact that Santa came is enough.

I agree with the comments of how cool it is that he is so excited…materialism can be an evil thing, yes, but this is a toy!!! And this kid has been waiting a year, right?
But I did want to say that those are his brother and sister, not his parents. His parents are videotaping, telling the kids this is the family gift. So, actually more cool…it’s not just HIS HIS HIS! He’s just purely excited. And crazy. And I am glad to see my kid’s not the craziest one!

I totally agree with both of you. when i was little, everything was so exciting. we ran down the stairs and screamed over the pile of presents. then guessed what each one was before opening it. And maybe not so excited as that kid, but i remember being excited over alot less than a Wii. my older cousin was disappointed the year he got a foosball table instead of a new truck. did he actually deserve the new truck? noooo, but he knew his parents could afford it, so he didnt see why he shouldnt get it.
Angela, I shouldnt be shocked that someone would actually say that, but some how i still am. his reaction is frightening.
Oh, that kid is totally “normal.” Didn’t you ever really, really want something, and then FINALLY get it? Who knows, he probably wanted a Wii for a l-o-o-o-ng time and thought he would never get one, and then boom, Wii.
That was actually really sweet in it’s own way, and definitely funny.
It is so obvious that this family does not get whatever, whenever… I think this video represents what is missing in a lot of households these days, appreciation for a gift. For example when the x-box came out my cousin of course had to have it, well that christmas of course he got one. My aunt had spent well over 1500 dollars on it and all the accesories and games he wanted to go with it and my father (his uncle) spent at least 800 on stuff to go with it too… The ungrateful little brat looked at his mom and asked “why didnt you get me the controller i wanted?” While I was sitting there honest to goodness thrilled over the two cd’s and the pile of clothes (not name brand btw) I recieved. If I were this boys parents I would be so proud that my child appreciates the things he recieves.
