Losing Your Hair? Blame Mom . . . and Dad

Posted by JeanneSager

After all these years of blaming Mom for making them bald, men have no one to blame but themselves. In two separate studies published this month, scientists in Germany and England have identified a gene that shows men are more at risk for hair loss if their father is bald.

Men can still inherit male pattern baldness from Mom - at least from Mom's side of the family. But the new findings show that not only can the marker for baldness exist on the X chromosome from mom but on chromosome 20 - which comes from either side. Two altered bits on this strand of DNA can make a man seven times as likely to go bald.

Considering 80 percent of male pattern baldness cases are hereditary, that's seven times more likely you're going to need that hat.
