Pregcellent: I Know When You'll Give Birth

Posted by Madeline Holler

Okay, maybe I don't know exactly. And your due dates might indicate I'm full of it. But it turns out, there are trends and statistical significance and stuff that make it a whole lot easier to bet on birth day/date outcomes.

For example, the most common day of the week for giving birth is Tuesday. Who knew? The least common day is Sunday. (My kids were Monday and Sunday -- we're so alternative.)

The day of the year with most births, according to this, is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and the Tuesday before New Years. The day of the year with fewest births is May 22. (What's wrong with May 22?)

These days summer months have the most births -- August, then September and July.

Do you fit the pattern?

A big part of the reason for Tuesdays tends to be due to scheduled C-sections, so don't get too excited. And probably the same for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Although that has nothing to do with why I gave birth on a Tuesday - my water broke at midnight Monday night/Tuesday AM.

Yeah, the do the c-sections the Tuesday before the holidays.  I know two women who went into labor on Thanksgiving.  I guess all the salty food spike their blood pressure and the kid had to bail. Mine were born in May on a Saturday morning and November on a Monday.  Both on holidays. Everyone in our family, except me, was born on a holiday including two uncles.  I was born on the 18th and my mom was 18 years old.  She was 19 and my sister was born on the 19th.  When she was 28 she had another of my sisters, born on the 28th.  Trippy huh?

Hmmm. my son was born on a Tuesday in August. How about that?

...Although he was over two weeks late and induced.  I doubt if he was left to his own devices, he would have lasted until another Tuesday.

My oldest was born August 31 on a Thursday.  He had to stay a couple of extra days and came home on Labor Day.

Nate was born on a Monday in July-near the 4th.  Quinn was born on a Tuesday in April.

Both my kids were born on Thursday mornings...February and November...much to my dismay, we'll never be able to have a back yard birthday party with wading pools and sprinklers.

I was born as a scheduled C-section on a Tuesday in September. My sister was born naturally on a Saturday night in February. Mine is due on a Thursday in December.
