It’s Raining Little Men: India’s Baby Throwing Ritual

Posted by Cole Gamble
Many experts believe a mother’s breast milk help a baby grow stronger. In India, they have a different method of toughing up their babies: drop them 5 stories.

Save your Michael Jackson jokes for after you see the video.

  Yowzah.

You know, I don’t feel much like passing judgment on other cultures today, so I’ll let you good folks do that in the comments below.

Banzai baby!

Yeah, who am I to question someone else's culture? There are worse things to get my panties in a bunch about, like genital mutilation and Austrian guys who kidnap and rape their daughters for 24 years in the basement. Or parents that pimp their kids out for money, ala Spears, Lohan, Cyrus.

I wonder how many break their necks or spines or suffer brain bleeds when they land?  Third world cultures are backwards.  Remember, they still think it is okay to stone adulterers, burn the wife in the husbnads funeral pyre while still alive and kill brides with too small dowries.

I would never!!

What a way to instill distrust between a child and his/her parents. Would you want your kid to feel no security from you?

I think this is an awful and very dangerous practice. It should be against the law. As far as the "cultural sensitivity" that people refer to when they choose not to judge these things - wtf? Just because something happens overseas, doesn't mean it's automatically above reproach. You can disapprove of the practice without insulting the entire culture. Let's also remember, please, that this is not a widespread practice in India. The clip is clearly taken from a segment that aired in India. The ritual is being presented as bizarre and shocking to those Indian viewers. It's frustrating the way Americans will see one tiny segment of a foreign population do something, and automatically assume that it is representative of the entire country. Stupid.

Speaking of stupid... Cassie, what is wrong with you? You are just unpleasant. You seem (from your comments) more backwards to me than anyone I've ever met in India or anywhere else.

About Cole Gamble

Cole Gamble is a writer in the environs of Portland, Oregon where he has two children, one he calls “Jillian” and the other he simply refers to as “The Beef.” His revolutionary parenting technique is a three-pronged system consisting of A) wrestling children for fun and profit; B) convincing his daughter she is a robot; and C) resisting the urge to beat up other four-year-olds when they tease his kids. Propagation of aforementioned children was assisted by his wife, Nicole, who is gorgeous but ironically hates being photographed. His writing has appeared in print, on various Internets and been transmitted into the air through the magic of the radio. Currently he is working on an evil self-help book titled Improve Your Life Or Die.
