Strollerderby Playdate: True Confessions

Posted by Adrienne Martini

I've got a little secret to share about my playdate this morning. No, no, it's nothing like that. Pervs. It's this: if you put my leg side-by-side with my playdater, it'd be hard to tell whose is more furry.

You think I'm kidding. Or, maybe, you just hope I'm kidding. I am not.

That's just one of the many confessions that Michelle W. forced me to admit while I was reading her blog, sometimes disgruntled. There are days when I also watch the clock and count the minutes that I have to be on-call for the children. There are moments when I wonder how the heck those rich-in-hits blogging moms do it. And there are times that Sponge Bob is my favorite critter ever.

You might just see yourself confessing a little bit too. Own your secrets, hairy legs and all.

Why do women still shave their legs in the 21st centruy? Are we all still trying to look prebuescent and hairless?  It is okay for men to look like adults but women still try to look like children.  And we wonder why we are treated as such in the workplace and at home.  Because we keep ourselves in that postition.  It is the small things we do that keep us in subservient positions in society.  I have never shaved my legs or armpits and neither will my daughters as long as they live with me.  I have also never heard a complaint from a man about it.

i just feel nicer when i have shaved legs. i dont do it very often, but when i do it makes me wants to paint my toenails and wear a skirt.makes me feel pretty

also when my daughter turns thirteen and wants to shave her legs i will let her. When i was thirteen i got made fun of for having such bushy legs. it sucked.

Well, I don't remember when I last shaved mine. January in Florida, maybe?

The only time it really occurs to me is to do so is if I'm on a beach or forced to wear pantyhose. The blonde hairs poking through nylons make the evil garment even worse.

I used to shave my legs for bike racing, but haven't in about a decade. I never notice if my wife does or not, but with red/blond hair it's not very noticeable. I definitely don't get the armpit thing either, but I do come from a very hippy community in Seattle. ;)
