Listen, if this turns out to be a hoax, I’ll be sure to let you know. But for now, I’m going to bring the story of the Russian Werewolf Boy to you as I read it in the London Daily Mail, which is to say it was reported as fact. (Though the rag does have a tendency to exaggerate.)
A boy was found in a remote forest in central Russia living with a pack of wolves. He was rescued and taken to a Moscow clinic, where he escaped and is now somewhere on the loose. Doctors said he looks about 10 years old, but after a medical examination think he might be older (that's him in the picture).
Police are searching for the dog/boy, who walks with bent hind legs, growls and snarls, and doesn't appear to speak any language. Authorities are worried because he may pose a risk in spreading infections and viruses.
The Daily Mail:
They are puzzled because he appears intelligent but does not seem to speak Russian or any other language. It is suspected he has been running wild for many years.
Such cases are not uncommon in Russia where there have been regular reports of 'Mowgli' children abandoned by their parents who are cared for by animals.
The boy moves around with his legs half bent, said Tvoi Den newspaper. "He was running with wolves and searching for food with them."
Villagers found this "wild creature" in a lair made of leaves and sticks in freezing temperatures and told the police who named him Lyokha, though his real identity is not known.
How sad for the boy – and the other abandoned children who become a wild pack’s pup – and how frightening for him too! At the same time, I find these stories totally fascinating. And the fact that stories like his aren’t uncommon? Well, what happens to them? Are they taken care of? Do they get help? Get care? Learn to speak?
