Crushing on Your Kid's Favorite Band Leader

I have a crush on Laurie Berkner. There. I said it. But she is one hot children's music star -- which creeps me out a little because normally when I think of children's music stars I think of Rafi or Barney or some amalgamation of middle age white men who couldn't hack in a real band.

Plus there's the fact that her music is designed to entertain my daughter, not me. I feel like the icky old man who leers at a preschool teacher or tries to pay the nanny in something other than cash.

While I don't let Emmeline watch any TV and keep the oh-dear-lord-child-just-chill-for-a-second-You-Tube viewing to a minimum, I was sick yesterday (thanks for your advice, by the way!) and at one point desperately searched for something to keep Emme from killing me.

Luckily I found something to make us both feel better. Enter Laurie Berkner -- the curly, golden locks, the zippy, upbeat attitude, the charming, intelligent lyrics and those outfits. Wow. Those outfits. She makes primary colors look good.

Emme and I watched "I'm Gonna Catch You" about 20 times in a row yesterday, and while Emme was easily bored after a good two viewings, I held out a little longer -- something about toddlers and repetition, I suppose.

Maybe it was the sleepless, cough syrup-induced haze, but pretty soon it was like she was singing directly to me, she's that good. I swear we had a moment after the 15th viewing -- when she looked into the camera and purred, "I'm Gonna Catch You."

And I answered. Out loud. "I'm right here, baby."

See? Creepy. Made only more so by the fact the song is now on my iPod.

So what do you think -- am I the only one with hidden crushes on children's stars? Or is Laurie Berkner just too awesome for words? Watch this video and let me know.

Well, I do know the sex dream about Steve from Blue's Clues is sort of a motherhood rite of passage....

Laurie Berkner is not my musical type, but I will say this: "Clean it Up"? Works. We start singing it and Mags will join in and immediately start picking up her toys.

My three-year-old's a big fan of the Beatles. Although Paul is "the cute one", I'm not sure I'm crushing on him... he is pretty cool for an old guy, though.

Laurie is the dad's version of Steve. I'll let you know if I ever have one of those dreams. Just what you want to hear, right?

Dude, my husband has the hots for Laurie too.

I never had a sex dream about Steve, but I did have a really nasty one about Joe (his replacement) involving a seedy motel room and lots of sweating and cocaine. Swear to god. I couldn't watch the show without blushing after that.

I'm sorry, sandy -- but is that even a real band? Is that made up? Oh please tell me it is.

So, are you the one that keeps getting to my blog by searching "Laurie Berkner's boobs"?

Pervy!  Jillian rocks out to U2, so we're all right there.  In fact, I require her to rock out to U2.  Laurie Berkner just annoys me for some reason, but I'm sure I'll eventually come around.

As for The Wiggles and their ilk, I don't think I'll EVER drink that kool-aid.

Oh you know you want to -- just give in. What's the harm of one little drink anyway? All the parents are doing it.

And no, Sarah, that wasn't me. But it does make me feel better.

Just to let you know, the guy in that video is her husband and they have a kid she gave birth to like two years ago or something. I think Laurie Bergner looks okay. Do you know who *I* think is hot? Lisa Loeb. She and Elizabeth Mitchell made a children's album together. It's called "Catch The Moon". I kept watching the Nogging clip of "Stop, Go" over and over again.

Hey, I just found that Lisa Loeb-Elizabeth Mitcheelll stuff on YouTube yesterday. Liz Mitchell played a free concert here a week or two ago and she was incredibly nice, signed our CDs and played peek-a-boo with my daughter.  And we both LOVE the CD we bought. She's already learned like four songs. And most kid''s music wants to make me tear my eardrums out.

The year? 2007. The scene? Cyberwood. A naive, wiry parental blog with a dream -- you could call it Blog Ambition -- started out working small, beer-soaked gigs at county fairs and roadhouses across the country, only to one day sell out mammoth stadiums
