It's a Potty Party: There is a Kit and Everything

potty party kitI've mentioned several times before that I have been trying to potty train my twins and things aren't going very well. I am desperate. I will at least consider almost anything. Enter the Potty Party Kit. I am not making this up. It comes with three party hats, balloons, noisemakers, a guide, medals, a chart and stickers.

They even have a kit available for twins! (I assume this means four hats and two charts - I'm not sure what you are supposed to do if you have triplets or higher order multiples.) There is also a deluxe kit which is gender specific and comes with rewards instead of stickers.

Look, I don't know if this (or anything else for that matter) will work on my kids or yours. People keep telling me that my children will not be wearing diapers to college, but I am starting to worry about kindergarten.

Hi. I don't know your kids ages or what you've tried, but I can offer this unsolicited advice:

Just take away the diapers.  Toileting is the child's job to learn, not the parent's job to teach.  Kids learn to use the toilet because it feels yucky to be in wet, soiled clothes, and because you have to stop your play to go get cleaned up.  Any kid can figure this out on his/her own.

My son trained at 25 months.  We used M&Ms and made a big deal out of "potty weekend."  With my daughter, we went for it at 18 months with the approach I described above.  It amazed me how she figured things out mostly on her own.

Be prepared to wash a lot of laundry for the first couple of weeks.  But that's it.

By the way, if I'm missing something like that you have a child with a disability or something that interferes with this approach, I apologize.  Again, I have no idea about your particular situation.

I don't know.  My oldest was trained to pee in the potty but when it came to the really messy stuff?  they went and stood in a corner and pooped in the panties.  It was a mess to clean up.

Yike. How did our cave-dwelling ancestors ever manage without the pointy hats?

I did the same thing as Alegria.  I just told my son no more diapers.  He was 2 1/2.

Took him to Target and let him pick out his own "big boy pants" (thank God for Mater underwear) I did m&m treats.

I took an old desk calender and made stickers of clip art of a boy going potty and every day he used the potty he got a sticker.

It was a little messy but when he realized how uncomfortable it was to sit in wet pants he got the picture

Had some issues with getting him to go at daycare and he wouldnt go at his dads house either but eventually he did.

I was a little messy and he some times still wets the bed at night but it was done before he was 3

I'm with Alegria ... take away the diapers and commit! I am a mom of 4 (3 out of diapers).

The first few days are hard, lots of crying, pee to clean up ... but they will get it and by the time a week is over you'll most likely have a potty trained kid.

It works best if you can stay home, close to the facilities!

DO NOT buy that kit!

Does Alegria's method work with a full time work/daycare schedule?  My daughter is 2 1/2 and we are struggling with this.  I've tried the no diapers method before, but gave up quickly when she wasn't bothered by running around in soaking wet cords.

Potty party worked on my first daughter at just over 2 1/2.

Potty party guaranteed not to work on my second daughter (who is 3 1/2) who could not care less about sticker charts.  I make her change her own wet pull ups, but she comes to get me for the poopy ones.  If I took the pull ups away, I'm sorry, but she would not give a damn about being wet or gooey and it would be just more for me to clean.

My mom told me one of my brothers still wasn't potty trained at 4 and the pediatrician told her to have him change his own diapers, and that worked (but probably because he was older).

If you have a potty party the worst case scenario is you and your twins had a party, so what does it hurt?

It's frustrating, but try to relax about it a little if you can!  Every kid is different and you'll figure out something.

My daughter will be 3 in two weeks. She is not fully potty-trained, but for the last two mornings, she has pooped in the toilet instead of in her diaper (for most of her life, I have had to change a poopy diaper in the morning).

We have been working on going in the potty for almost 6 months--no pressure, just m&ms  & lots of praise when she remembers and asks to go on the potty. The sudden shift to pooping in the potty is because she wants to wear underwear (all of a sudden--I think it's because other kids in her group at daycare have them) and she wants to be able to go to the pool when it opens.

I resolved not to pressure her, because that only engenders resistance. I am also a working mom, and the only time I have to work with her on this with any kind of consistency is on the weekends, and I really haven't felt like wasting what little time I have to spend with her worrying about whether or not she's potty trained. She seems to be ready to do it now, and hopefully by next month, she'll be out of diapers, but I won't freak out if she isn't. Timetables mean nothing to a toddler.

I am not one to say that my new product will work wonders nor will it work on every kid, but aftr my own experience with my 2 year old, I've come up with the POTTY PARTY CAKE.

Not unlike a diaper or towel cake that you may have seen at baby or bridal showers, this toddler gift item has all the tools you could ask for to start potty training.

The "cake" includes a potty seat, training diapers, big boy/big girl underwear, a potty book, party hats, banners, charts stickers and great clappers to celebrate a successful trip to the potty!
