Babble Talk: Nuby Victorious in "Battle Sippy Cup"

nubyBabble's Nicole Feliciano recently put five popular brands of sippy cups to the test, and the brand that came out of top—beating out better known brands Playtex and Gerber—is the candy-colored Nuby.

Feliciano likes that the Nuby has no valves or straws, and frankly, I do, too. Washing crusty sippy cups is one of those crap duties of parenting that no one ever tells you about.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Evenflo insulated straw cups, they don't seem to get as grungy, and they hold enough liquid to quench a thirsty preschooler's thirst.  What about you?  Got any sippies you'd to recommend?

I hate sippy cups! Or rather my daughter hates drinking milk from sippy cups.  Haven't really found any that work or that I like.  I did find these cool sippy caps that you can screw on most water bottles.  Love those.

Once again, Babble comes through. We're sippy cup chopping right now.

That said - just in case you needed something else to worry about ... there is some evidence that sippy cups and bottles made of polycarbonate plastic can leach Bisphenol A, which mimics estrogen, when heated, and may be toxic. Polypropelene and Polyethelene are supposedly "safer" plastics. The Take n Toss is on the "safer" list - not sure about the others. Here's a link to an anti-Bisphenol A site (http://www.bisphenolafree.org/) - there is a class action lawsuit against bottle manufacturers in L.A. right now.

Yes, these valveless sippy cups seem like a dream but they do not last! At least they don't last past a slip of the old bottle brush or a toddler's pokey finger. ZOINKS!

Re: unsafe sippy cups?  Just check the bottom.  If the recycle symbol has a number 3 in them, they are unsafe.

I love the Nuby sippies, too (though kids with teeth can easily chew the valve up at the top).  It was the only thing I found that my little girl would drink out of besides my boob.  Too bad I didn't figure that one out until 9 months in...
