Before You Upgrade To Windows Vista, Read This!

Posted by Patti

Yahoo blogger Robin Raskin reports that Brian Livingston, author of Windows Vista Secrets, explained to her a few of the ways that the security of Microsoft's new operating system can be thwarted by kids. Vista's excellent parental controls are one of the features that Microsoft has been loudly touting, and they are indeed the best anyone's come up with.  But they're still not so difficult to bypass: if you don't know your password, Vista displays a prompt with your "hint" question. If your kid is paying any attention to you whatsoever, he's going to be able to log right in. Vista's parental controls can also be bypassed by certain games, and the controls don't apply to information viewed from a flash drive.

Bottom line, as always, is that you need to supervise your children and not rely on the machine to keep them from viewing content you don't want them to see.

Just don't teach your kids their pet's name, and you're good to go.
