Taking Your Kids To See A Killer Whale Mame Someone Isn't As Cheap As It Used To Be

Posted by Dad Gone Mad

Less than two weeks ago, a 5,000-pound killer whale named Kasatka dragged a trainer underwater during a show at SeaWorld in San Diego. As a paying crowd watched, the trainer was bitten and held at the bottom of a 36-foot-deep tank. He suffered a broken foot (and probably a soiled wetsuit).

As for SeaWorld? Naturally, a story like this is a public relations nightmare for all three of its US parks (San Diego, Orlando, San Antonio). No parent wants to take their child to watch a two-and-a-half-ton guppy kill a man right before their eyes. So in order to distract vacationers from the attack, SeaWorld Orlando has created a diversion you may not have expected: it's raising ticket prices. A standard one-day adult ticket now costs $64.95 and a ticket for children between 3 and 9 years old is up $4 to $53.95.

The therapy your child will need after watching a trainer get shredded limb from limb is not included in these prices. Good luck with that. One presumes the increased prices ($65 for a one-day ticket? Absurd!) will offset the increased cost of worker's compensation insurance for the human whale snacks.

Human whale snacks.... *snicker*

I would SO pay for that. Imagine? Getting to see that LIVE and not on YouTube?? The "I was THERE when that happened!" story would be good for years to come at verious parties and social gatherings.... thats water cooler GOLD.

$64.95 - Admission to Sea World for mom

$53.95 - Admission to Sea World for 5 year old son

Seeing Shamu let his natural instincts take over on the "human whale snacks" swimming freely in his tank.... PRICELESS.

Particularly in the first days since Babble.com went live, it undermines one's confidence in the site's cool "urban intellectual" content to see obvious spelling errors like that in your column's headline.  Where did you come up with "mame" -- ?
