My son Michael and cat Sheba have also worked out their own situation. I taught him to pet her gently and she's actually grateful sometimes for the attention he gives her, since I'm quite frequently busy cleaning up both of their messes. When she gets tired of him, she walks away and I make sure he doesn't follow her too far. If he bugs her too much she'll hit him, but without the claws. I'm glad I let them figure it out mostly by themselves.

I had a Rottweiler and was introduced to the Carl books. I think Ty would love them. Thanks for reminding me.

Has Ty read the Carl books? My son is obsessed with them and is sorely disappointed when our vaguely-Rottweilerian dog, Jack, doesn't take him on fun, zany adventures when I step out of the room.
