Adding to the tired trend of celebrities' parents turning on their famous children, Oprah Winfrey's dad, Vernon Winfrey is reportedly writing an unflattering tell-all about his popular and much-loved daughter. Although Mr. Winfrey denies the claims, Oprah has confirmed to the NY Daily News that she is aware a book is in the works. Being an Oprah fan, I tend to believe her side of the story. Besides, I don't want to ruin my chances of getting a new car when I manage to snag a ticket to her show.
But what kind of idiot parent would go up against Oprah? Sure, Michael Lohan and Jon Voight did it, but their famous daughters don't have nearly the universal goddess-worship that Oprah has. My feeling is that if Vernon Winfrey does end up writing a book and it doesn't paint a flattering picture of the talk show queen, he'd better change his name, get a new address and never, ever appear on his daughter's show. We all saw how she made James Frey cry, and his book wasn't even about her.
