Bjork rarely talks about her kids - 21-year-old Sindri, and 4-year-old Isadora - which is disappointing, since she's probably a really cool mom, with interesting, if not cutely worded, thoughts on motherhood in general. She professes to be a homebody, but Friday nights at home with Bjork must go off, even if everyone's just sitting around eating and drinking. Think what you will about her music, but there's no denying that she's an extremely interesting person.
Bjork guards her privacy fiercely, and once attacked a photographer for coming too close to her young boy. Sindri, her son with former Sugarcubes bandmate Thor Eldon, was raised by his father in Bjork's native Iceland, where she visits frequently. Isadora, her daughter with multimedia artist Matthew Barney, is being raised in New York, though she is rarely seen or talked about in the media. I bet Isadora has the most kick-ass dress-up collection ever - I wonder how we could score a playdate?
Recently, Bjork told Spin Magazine that she considers her kids her best companions:
"[My daily life at home] is more regular than people think,
let's just say that. There's definitely a lot of cooking happening.
People are not going to believe it, I know, but I've always been a bit
of a homebody. I had a child at the age of 20, and just when he was
getting big, I got a new one. They're the best companions. I
can't imagine anything better than having a conversation about giraffes
and why they are not blue."
Hey - why aren't giraffes blue? I've never thought to ask before... see? Bjork rules!
