When Hollywood bigwig director McG came to new mommy Bryce Dallas Howard with a role in the new Terminator movie a couple years ago, she figured she'd have to lose her baby weight, and fast. She'd just given birth to her son, Theodore Norman (now 2).
"I had a pregnant body with no child in it," Bryce said at the film's L.A. premiere Thursday.
McG gave her the role of Kate, wife of John Connor, who is played by Christian Bale. "I was so excited," Bryce says, "but then was just kind of waiting to tell him, 'I'm not in great shape right now.'" She gave McG the news and he said, "That's okay. Kate's really pregnant, that'll be even better."
During the filming of Terminator, Bryce - daughter of Ron Howard, another megastar director - started losing weight, even without any action scenes. "Naturally, just after a woman has a baby, she starts to lose weight," she says. "McG was throwing cookies at me the whole time. 'You're still eight months pregnant in the movie! Be careful! Continuity!"
Bryce laughs about it now, but she's happy to be back into her usual shape, having used "good old-fashioned diet and exercise, and homeopathy to help me get my hormones back in shape, because that goes crazy after you have a child."
Terminator Salvation starts in movie theaters Thursday. Can't wait. Hopefully, it'll be so good that it erases Terminator 3 from my memory.
