A world famous athlete is pregnant and when I read the announcement I was reminded how different our countries are.
Li Jiawei, a world champion paddler from Singapore, is expecting her first child. She said, 'I didn't expect to be pregnant this fast. I feel blessed and lucky,'
What's interesting to me is that, " When Jiawei expressed the desire to have a child, she and the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) came to an agreement on a family-planning process: that the baby must come within 21 months.
Then, STTA president Lee Bee Wah had explained that the 2010 timeframe would enable the Chinese-born paddler to recover in time for the London Games.
It's strange to think that she had to get it cleared, she had to get permission to get pregnant from an association.
