William H. Macy Gives The Best Parenting Advice, Ever!

Posted by trix

William H. Macy and his wife Felicity Huffman must have the strongest marriage ever. I say this because he has the best relationship advice for new parents.

“When my pals have kids, I look at them and say ‘look, these kids are almost bullet proof. They can take anything, but I tell you what’s on the critical list: your relationship with your wife.’ You’d better make a date and take your wife out within a month – whether you want to, or not – and you can’t talk about the kid. And you’d better have a romantic weekend within two months because it tears couples apart, these babies do.”

Yeah!, I didn't follow that advice, I was too busy with a child that didn't sleep.

Do you have regular date nights with your significant other?

20 years and two kids and we didn't follow this type of advice. We were happy to spend those early days with our infant children. The last thing I'd ever do is leave a two month baby for a weekend. That is terrible advice for many nursing mothers. And I certainly didn't *want* to go out on a date within the first month.

And, no, our relationship doesn't revolve around the kids. Our kids are barely school age so we had many years together to nurture our relationship and even in those early, sleep deprived, months we took the time to nurture our relationship as we nurtured our child. We just didn't need to leave our infant to do it.

After infancy, sure, we have date nights and the kids have sleep away nights at grandma's etc... but not when they were infants. No thank you.
