Salma Hayek Can't Kick Her Addiction

Posted by Sassy Smith

We told you a few months ago about Salma Hayek's addiction.  The 42-year-old actress has tried to give "it" up but so far, she's not had any luck.  But honestly, she really doesn't want to stop.  She's hooked - on what you ask?  Well, let me tell you...

....she's crazy about breastfeeding!

The Latin beauty said she feels "like an alcoholic" when breastfeeding her daughter Valentina, now 16 months-old.

Said Hayek, "It is the best thing you can do for your child, not only the bonding, that's how you build the immune system, so in a country like Africa imagine how important it is for the mothers to do that."  Salma is a Unicef activist, and she recently breastfed a starving child of a Sierra Leone refugee who wasn't able to express milk.

Salma also says that there's a misconception that breastfeeding moms can't have a sex life.  "There is a belief that if you are breastfeeding you cannot have a sexual life, so the husbands of these women are really encouraging them to stop and this is just a taboo."

So, how long do you think she'll breastfeed Valentina?  Is there a "right" age to stop?

Yes, good for her!  My son just self weaned at 19 months and I am sad.  I understand the "addiction" comments very well.

I don't understand the "addiction" and I'm not crazy about that term, but I absolutely appreciate her pro-breastfeeding position. Personally, I believe the mother-child breastfeeding relationship should last for as long as is mutually desired. The "right"age is different for every dyad.

love this woman more and more!  good on her for being so OUT with breastfeeding and 16mths is not a LONG time.  i breastfed my daughter for 21 mnths and loved it too and plan to breastfeed the next due this august.  to decide not to breastfeed is like, as carlos gonzalez says - like choosing to use a wheelchair when you can walk.
