Ex- NFL Player Shane Dronett Dead

Posted by Whit Honea

Shane Dronett, who played for the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons - including the Super Bowl team of 1998, was found dead in his home.  He was 38-years-old.

Dronett is survived by his wife Chris and their two daughters.

Dan Reeves, Dronett's coach with both teams, said, "My prayers go out for Chris and her two daughters. You hate to lose anybody at any time but when your kids are high school age or younger it makes it tough, and it's tough for Chris."

The death was first reported as a suicide, but the official cause is still being investigated.

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank stated: "The entire Atlanta Falcons family is saddened by the news of Shane Dronett's passing.  Our deepest condolences are with his family during this difficult time."

Very sad news.  Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and fans of Shane Dronett.

How rare to find a football mention on Babble (excluding Tom Brady).  I've actually talked to this guy once or twice.  I used to work for his agent for a short time back in 2003 after he was released by the Falcons. That's so sad, he was so young.

Melissa, I try to sneak football, or sports in general, in whenever possible- but I'd rather not do it like this.

Everything I've seen on Shane Dronett speaks highly of him.  Sad, indeed.

I played high school football with him. He was a great athlete, always looked out for the other guy, and was alot of fun to be around. Such a tragedy.

Shane was my nephew--he was a Beautiful and Loving man.  He cared deeply for others.  I got to see him play for the Falcons in Cleveland--he made arrangements for Me, his cousin, my son Jason, my husband, and Jason's wife to attend the game back in the 90's.  After the game, we got to meet with him, we took pictures and I remember him being such a giant when standing beside him.  While we were talking, a fan came up and asked him for his autograph and he said, "I'm talking to my family right now". It made me feel very special.  I was shocked to hear the news of his passing, I still cannot digest it.  My prayers go out to Him, his wife and daughters, and his mom, Candy.  My kids and him use to play together in Orange.  I moved to Toledo, Ohio about 20 years ago.  My brother, James, was married to his mom, Candy.  We are all devasted.  We send our love to all the family.
