Michael Jackson is not well - actually, 'not well' is a bit of an understatement. The former king of pop is reportedly in failing health due to a genetic lung disorder. Reps for Jackson deny this but pals say that he is very ill, bedridden most of the time and is addicted to painkillers and alcohol.
Friends of the singer are fearful that Jackson will die in the next few months.
A pal says, "It's tragic. His condition is just so far gone, I'd be surprised if he lasts six months.
"Painkillers and booze have caught up with him. The only way he was able to cope with the stress of sex scandels and his roller-coaster life was to mask the pain with substance abuse.
"But the end result is an addiction that will kill him."
The friend adds that Jackson became addicted to pills as far back as the infamous Pepsi commercial where Michael's hair was burned. Now, twenty five years later, "the drugs simply have ravaged him."
The 50-year-old Jackson is in "really, really bad shape. He's been sick for six to eight months and he just keeps getting worse.
"His muscles and lungs are deteriorating, and he's bedridden much of the time. He can walk, but not for very long.
"On good days, Michael is able to take his kids to a bookstore. But he's never out for more than an hour. He has very little strength... It's ultimately in God's hands."
Michael, according to biographer Ian Halperin, is suffering from Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and Jackson's addiction to morphine and Demerol can make the condition worse. It's believed that Michael needs a lung transplant.
Halperin said he was told by a Jackson family friend, "Michael wants to have the lung transplant, but because of the other illnesses he's fighting, he's too weak to undergo such a major procedure. He's taking one painkiller after another."
Halperin also claims that Jackson is suffering from emphysema, and chronic gastrointestinal bleeding.
"It's the bleeding that could kill him," said Halperin.
Michael's people say it's all false, that "Mr. Jackson is in fine health."
But the close friend says, "Michael's fighting for his life. And it doesn't look good."
If any of this is even remotely true - how are Michael's kids handling having a sick father? What if something happens to him - who would raise his kids?
