From Fat To Fab: Ricki Lake Lost 140 Pounds!

Former talk show host, Ricki Lake can't believe she was "a fat person."  Her weight ballooned to 270 pounds at her all-time high.  So how did the mom of two shed so much weight?

She worked her butt off - literally!

Lake spoke with PEOPLE at a recent benefit for the New Space for Women's Health - a New York City birthing center which will open in 2010 and revealed how she lost the weight.

The 40-year-old said, "I can't believe I was a fat person for most of my life."

She adds, "I didn't have surgery and I worked hard.  There's no secret.  I'm active.  I watch what I eat."

She also knows there's pressure to stay thin by "Hollywood standards."

Says Lake, "According to Hollywood standards, I'm not a thin girl.  I'm a normal girl.  I don't want to perpetuate that obsession but yet I am also guilty of wanting... to lose weight."

Mom to Milo, 11, and Owen, 6, Ricki says, "I'm just grateful that I have sons and not daughters because it's that much harder."

What does she eat?

She has meals delivered by Fresh Dining service, saying, "It's organic, it's fresh and I still love it."  She admits that it's not always easy to stay focused and there are life situations that could crop up that put her off course.

"With the weight stuff I don't have any answers.  Something tragic in my life could happen and I could balloon and gain weight.  I can't promise I will be like this forever."

How will she deal with the pending holidays?

"I will be really conscious because I have this book coming out and I want to look great.  I don't need to lose anymore weight.  [But] I don't want to go backwards.  So I'm not going to pig out this Christmas."

Ricki is working on making a sequel to her 2007 documentary The Business of Being Born and she's also got a guide to pregnancy in the works, due out in May of 2009.

She looks awesome!
