Angelina Jolie: Pax Still Saves His Food

Posted by Karl Erikson

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have 3 adopted children, and she says that there are challenges associated with adopting an older child, as opposed to adopting an infant. Pax, 5, was adopted a couple of years ago in Vietnam, where he lived in an orphanage for his first 3 years.

Some of the funny parts of helping him adjust: "He would take 5 baths a day," Angelina says. And they "had trouble convincing him underwear is not pants." He also went from being the "shyest to the wildest person in the house."

But the emotional scars of his earliest years remain. "Children respond to affection quickly when they have been starved of it, so they are very loving soon after coming home. But Pax, for example, still wants to save food. He often puts parts of his dinner away for another time, even though we explain there will be more tomorrow."

Wow, that's rough. Can't even imagine what he must have gone through to put him in that mindset. Good thing he has such supportive and loving parents now.

Angelina looks like such a great mom to Pax. The way that she's looking at him and the way that her arm is around him.  They are both lucky to have each other.

Having adopted several older children, this is typical behavior and extremely hard to overcome (don't forget what happened with Mia Farrow's daughter). My prayers go out to anyone willing to take on the challenge. There's no easy answers, but the children need homes. I don't really understand why people speculate about Angie's kids and "is globetrotting" (or whatever) good for them. No one cared about them before they were adopted.
