Updated! Jessica Seinfeld: Does Oprah Endorse Cheating?

Posted by Whit Honea

She's prettier than James Frey.

I was just kidding when I compared Jessica Seinfeld to James Frey , but some people aren't laughing- namely Missy Chase Lapine, the woman that published a cookbook called The Sneaky Chef which is just like Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious, except that it was written first.

Apparently the differences are few and the similarities many- recipes and combinations, even the cover.

Does Jerry know about this?  What's next, his Bee Movie was first produced by a fan-site for Honey Nut Cheerios?

And Oprah?  What's her role in this?

By the way, Oprah, if you're reading this, I'm working on a book right now that I think you should consider.  It's called Rocko and Julie.  It's an original story about star-crossed lovers and their family feud.  It has swords, poison and light through yonder windows.  You'll love it!! Call me.

UPDATE: Jezebel has a great take on Seinfeld and her "defense." I would write about it, but if I copy anything else from them then I really will be endorsed by Oprah.

I read about Seinfeld's book about a month ago, before it came out, so when I went to the bookstore, of course they did not have it. But as I was looking, I came across Lapine's book and thought "Hmm--this seems like the same thing!" so that's what I got.

It looks like others are doing the same thing now, since Seinfeld's book is out of stock: Lapine's book is #21 on the Amazon best-sellers list. So at least she's going to make some dough on this too!

Good point.  This will probably give her more publicity than a book tour.

I bought lapine's book a while ago, too.  When my baby stopped eating baby-food, i had lots of homemade purees left over and the only thing I could think of was mixing them into mac and cheese and sauce, and I wanted more ideas.  So I did some internets searching and found out about Lapine's book.  Good book!

Glaf I foudn it, too. Becuase, personally, I'd much rather support the "little guy/gal" than a celeb.

When Jessica Seinfeld couldn't get her three kids to eat healthy foods, she decided to trick them.

It's true that Lapine has gotten a lot of publicity (and sales) from Seinfeld’s book, but that doesn't excuse Jessica Sklar Nederlander Seinfeld's plagiarizing. Of course, this is a woman who's used to getting away with cheating.

Obviously the book was an ego gratifying ghost-written job that either was a rip off on purpose, as a set up, or it was carelessness by a company that hired the ghost writer who was a plagarist. If it was the wife herself, then she is dishonest and has a lot of audacity. Either way, the original author can sue and take the Seinfeld's to the cleaners. I hope she does. He has too much, and is wasting it on a garage in Manhattan for his toys, and doesn't do any good for others that is meaningful with the money, from what I hear and see.  He should be sued along with his plagarist wife.

Gee, Is anyone surprised that a cheating (remember she was newly married when she met Jerry?) bitch cheated? As if she actually cooks and has ideas on her own. Puh-lease! The Sneaky Chef is a great book. I've been a sneaky chef for years, but don't tell my kids!

Soooo, what happens when a celebrity-by-association puts out a book on hiding veggies in otherwise innocuous foods? Well, at first it's all Oprah love (sez FameCrawler) and interviews , and then...the backlash. Critics of the covert food strategy

THIS IS A HUGE DEAL IF MS. SEINFELD IS A PLAGIARIST!

Point #1 - Ms. Lapine showed her book to HarperCollins (Ms. Seinfeld’s publisher) 6 months before Ms. Seinfeld. Ms. Lapine’s publisher had already made Ms. Seinfeld’s publisher change the book cover (which easily resembled Ms. Lapine’s book cover).

Point #2 - Ms. Seinfeld has the same agent from the William Morris Agency as the Harvard sophomore student who recently lost her book contract for copying another’s novel.

Coincidence? You be the judge!

Man you folks don't have anything better to do than rag about two cookbooks that may be almost the same. God get a freakin' life. So what, on the other hand it be a great Seinfeld show Kramer could be the next Yankee manager and George could sue him because he got a better job than George working for the Yanks.

It's too bad that the show Seinfeld is no longer on the air - Jessica Seinfeld's travails with her family cookbook, "Deceptively Delicious," would make a great sitcom storyline. So says Jerry Seinfeld, who can't believe that his
