Obama’s Designer Does Dolls

Is this an alternative version of Michelle Obama’s inauguration night dress by Jason Wu? Nope, this is a dress he designed for a doll, the Josephine Baker ‘Tropical Siren’ Dressed Doll to be precise. Jason Wu, the young designer who created Obama’s white flowing inauguration night gown, did a series of costumes for 12” plastic dolls. This one celebrates Baker’s role in the film Zou Zou. It is a limited edition doll (450 worldwide) and costs $100. So maybe it isn’t for little Sally to play…but you can always get it for you! Check it out here.

First Look: Quinny by Henrik Vibskov

Quinny (a force in cool-looking kiddie gear) stakes a claim at the highest end of the market—the limited edition stroller.

Unwilling to be outdone by the competition, Quinny has hired top design talent to add some razzle-dazzle to their strollers and garner media attention. It worked.

Their hired gun? Danish-born design wunderkind, Henrik Vibskov. Vibskov dabbles in numerous media: film, fashion and music…and now strollers.

What you get from this collaboration is a tight group of four products constructed in bold prints and made of natural materials. Vibskov calls his prints: Mad, Rainbow and Raindrop. We call them kicky.

We’re particularly impressed with his redo of the Zapp—the mighty little fold-up stroller. Dots galore take this stroller from workhorse to show horse. And of course that breeding is going to cost you. This version of the Zapp retails for $449.99 (standard Zapps start at $169.99). Check the site for retail locations.

Summer Frock - Limited Edtion of TEN!

My daughter is going through one of those ultra fun yet sometimes excruciating and frustrating fashion phases. At two and a half, she only wants to wear dresses, tutus and sparkly shoes, which can be problematic when we’re going to the park on a cloudy, cold and dewy day. She’s partial to pink, but she is currently drawn to dresses that are patterned, bold, and make a statement. Problem is, we only have one such dress and it is being worn pert near daily, yogurt stains and all. On my search to increase her dress wardrobe, I found this gorgeous handmade dress, the Bloom Mod Min by Bellaserababy, via the wonderful etsy ($34). She states “I only have enough fabric to make 10 so grab them while you can!” So act fast if you want one, 'cos after I buy mine, there will only be nine!
