So my picture isn't the greatest, but the Animal Pack backpacks from Little Life are seriously cool. Well, more like seriously cute and useful, which together I suppose adds up to cool. A small daypack for your little hiker, a rain hood for fun and a tether for mom and dad? Never mind, it's seriously cool.

The Animal Pack comes in four animals (ladybug, cow, bee and turtle) and the hood of each is designed for each animal. So the bee has antennae, the ladybug has eyes etc. It's also designed for those parents who want a tether for their child and a have a child doesn't want to be tethered. "See Billy, I'm not putting you on a leash, it's just a fun backpack that daddy can hold on to at the same time!" (The tether is not for me, but I can see how it would be useful hiking).

It's been available in the UK for a while now, but it's coming to the USA on November 15th and will cost $40 to $42. It will be distributed by Rock Gear Distribution, but you can check out the product pages at LittleLife.co.uk.

ABC Kids Expo 2008: Bug Pod From Boon

You've probably seen the Frog Pod from Boon before. It's the bath toy scoop that doubles as a holder for all the toys. One of the many cool things they've announced at ABC is the Bug Pod. It works the same as the Frog Pod, except that it takes up less wall space and has a higher capacity scoop. And of course it's shaped like a ladybug. In the picture they've decorated the side of the wall of their booth with them, but in your home they'll probably look best stuck to the wall in the bathroom.

Bug Pod, available in stores soon for around $29.00 (though they're $34.99 on the web site). (I apologize if that sounds snobby!) With so many well designed outdoor toys to choose from that won't break the bank, all you need is a little imagination (and the internet) to find toys that add to the beauty of your yard. And you can't get much cuter than ladybugs! Here are a few of my favorite ladybug toys:

The Wheely Bug ride-on toy goes backwards, forwards, sideways, and in circles. It can be ridden outdoors and indoors without harming your floor. Originally made in Australia, the Wheely Bug is now made in China under strict European manufacturing standards. Awarded the best Australian toy 5 years in a row and won the Silver Award in the Netherlands as the best baby and infant product of 2007. Buy it for $64.95 plus free shipping.

A Ladybug Tree Swing is much cuter than an ordinary swing. The swing is made of wood and is 12 inches in diameter and can hold 150 pounds. There is also a Leaf Tree Swing. Imagine them both side by side. Each swing is $29.99.

The Ladybug Ball from Togu is a glossy, little ball that's ideal for small hands. Only 4 inches in diameter and made in Germany. Only $3.99.

Crocodile Creek's ball is 7 inches in diameter and made of rubber (does not containt PVC).
