  It used to be that buying American was something reserved for the Heartland and people who liked wearing only cotton. But, my how times have changed.  Now, if you give your kids toys from anywhere other than Europe or the good ole' USA, you're a bad parent. But if you do your research often you'll find things assembled in those countries are made from parts originating in other, less regulated countries.   Well, they get an A from the Parents Choice Award people for 2007, anyway. This extra large super Viking Toys recycling truck was chosen as a great option for imaginative and eco-friendly play. Get yours for $34.99 at Amazon. The irony of a giant plastic truck being thusly honored is palpable, but nevertheless, it is pretty cool that this truck deals in recycling rather than just refuse. • Droolworthy: Rabbit Toes Personalized Plates

  I love the idea of a personalized plate as a special gift for a child (particularly one with an unusual name), but so often the choices are so over-the-top cutesy I cannot imagine anyone over the age of five finding them attractive. These Rabbit Toes plates (from Jessica Rust Designs) have utterly charmed me -- choose from a large cake plate ($65) or four dessert plates ($75 for the set). The delicate fairies or fun construction vehicles patterns circle the rims along with a distinct but tasteful personalization, rendering these designs usable for years to come.
