One of the things that I have always hated about instruments geared specifically for children is how awful they sound. Those little plastic and metal pianos and xylophones that are sold at the the big box toy stores? You know the ones I am talking about.
Yeah, they probably lasted at my house until the giver left and then were promptly put into the Goodwill pile.
But real instruments are wonderful. They encourage children to explore sounds, to develop a love for making music. Children have ears too, except for when it comes to listening to their parents that is. Do yourself a favor and buy your child an instrument that won't make you gouge your own eardrums out.
This little guitar ($110) is made out of a sardine can. All the materials are have been recycled. The artist/ musician has been making and selling these little gems for over 12 years.
There is beauty in the simplicity of the design.
