Let me be the first to say that the phrase “baby couture”
makes me wince. Everybody, repeat with
me: “They’re gonna outgrow it in a month anyway!” And yet I’m a sucker for beautiful design and
detailed craftsmanship, which are the hallmarks of couture. And yet I’m (let’s
face it) really cheap.
Here to solve my mass of contradictions is Pink Blossom, a
“collectible couture” line with prices that rival – and often beat – those of
high-end retail stores. Sized for girls ages one through eight, designer Jillian Wong’s
collection contains dozens of unique pieces with impeccable details, like hand
embroidery and lace trimming. One of the samples we received was the scallop-edged,
fully-lined cotton Rui skirt with a side zipper, button closure and floral
embroidery; another was the mandarin-collared Yen blouse with sophisticated
darts and vintage-style round buttons. (The photos on the website aren't very clear, but trust us that they look great in person.) We also got a copy of the Kala set,
which is a total steal for $28. These are the kinds of
clothes that will still be in style fifteen years from now – so even if your
kid does outgrow them in a month, younger siblings won’t resent the
hand-me-downs. Check out the current collection on the Pink Blossom
website. – Gwynne Watkins
