Made from rescued adult sweaters that are washed in hot water with ecological detergent. The water from
the washing machine goes into a "greywater garden," a lush oasis of
semi-tropical plants in the artist's berkely California garden. The sweaters are then dried in a hot dryer shrinking the wool further.
This process is done multiple times until the material is felted, thick and soft. This results in a sweater that is warm and more coat-like.
The felted sweaters are then cut up and resewn into child sized sweaters, embellishments, such as dinosaurs, are added on some sweaters.
Dinosaur sweater pictured above is available at Earthly Arts for $55. Other examples after the jump.
