Backseat Peace Without Pimping Your Car

Posted by Heather Kuldell

Some folks can rely on their in-car DVD players or video game consoles for a little road peace, but if you’re entertaining a decidedly younger crowd, consider going low-tech. The Kicky Pants AutoMobile offers car-seated kids entertainment that dangles from the ceiling, which means no crying over dropped toys. The AutoMobile is a stretchy strap that can be secured around the “oh crap” handles above windows. It includes plastic rings that can be used to transform the toys you already have into mobiles that can dangle over front or rear-facing child seats. Unlike the other new fangled car systems, this one costs only $19.99.

You know, I'm a big fan of using the rear view mirror for checking the traffic behind me (as opposed to putting on make-up). I don't think that AutoMobiles would be particularly safe, so even though I appreciate what they're trying to do, thumbs down for discouraging safe driving. (Sleep-deprived parents are dangerous enough on the road.)

Not to mention ANY mirror, toy, sun shade with hard plastic, bottle of water, book, or other loose object becomes a projectile if you are in a car accident. I removed the sun shade and mirror after thinking about these items turning into missles if in the unfortunate event of a collision.
