The Saga Of The Triangular Pencil Grips

Posted by Chris Ford

My daughter is learning to write, and in pre-school she uses those old-school triangular pencil grips. The theory is it helps keep kid's fingers in the right place, and judging by the quality of her writing at school versus at home, it seems to help. So I went around to the local office supply stores to get some for her. But much to my surprise none of the big chain stores (Staples, Office Max, Office Depot) had any - at least not the triangular ones.

So, at my four-year-old's suggestion ("Dad, you can find them on the Internet"), off to the Internet I went to find some. Luckily I came across The Pencil Grip, Inc., and there, buried in their "classics" section were a bunch of triangle grips. A five pack only costs you $1.19, but because you'll likely spend five times that in shipping, I managed to use their store locater to find a local retailer.

And where were they? Not in a stationary store but at a store for teacher supplies. I had no idea there even was such a store.
