ABC Kids Expo 2008: Zigo Leader Bicycle Jogging Stroller
This product is something that, when you look at it you think, why hasn’t anyone done this before? Then when you really check it out your realize how innovative some things really are. The Zigo Leader is a jogging stroller that fits onto the front of a bicycle, but it can be used as just a bike, just a jogging stroller, a regular double sized stroller or everything combined.
The trick to the Zigo (shown above with everything combined) is in the steering column (I’m calling it that for lack of a better term). The Zigo Leader is a bicycle that you can take the front tire off and attach the stroller (or “pod” as they call it) to the front. But when you do, all of the functionality of the bike transfers to the stroller (steering, brakes etc.) It’s really quite cool to see. Then, when you’re done pedaling, you can easily detach the stroller, do some shopping, jogging or whatever, and then reattach it to the bike afterwards and be on your way. And ultimately when you’ve outgrown the stroller, you can put stuff in it, or take the pod off completely and use it as a basic street bike.
It’s kind of hard to explain, so I’d suggest visiting their site and checking out the short video on it. The one caveat to the whole thing is it’s heavy. The whole thing when it’s assembled runs about 75 pounds – 20% heavier than your typical bicycle/child trailer combo according to the Zigo representative I spoke with. Plus, then you’ve got to put your kid or kids in it, so it’s really only good for basic inclines and flat paved surfaces. But hey, you won’t be spending money on gas, and you’ll be getting a workout to boot.
The Zigo Leader will retail for around $1350 and should be available in November/December of this year. Check it out at MyZigo.com.

Yeah! This is cheap compared to getting a similar bike shipped from Amsterdam, which is what I was planning to do. Plus you get a jogging stroller, which I was just starting to research! I am thrilled! I love it when I can have only one product that has multiple uses. The Amsterdam ones are called bakfiets and many of them are trikes with front wheels — the steering is not difficult. Putting kids behind you where you can’t see them as the Chariot does makes me far, far more nervous!
I have the chariot, and love it. I think something that hooks on the front of a bike would make me a bit nervous, as well as make steering challenging. I think the Chariot is better, as well.
OMG! $1350! and I thought the Chariot was expensive! I think the Chariot is a better set up.
