Babble Crashes the Hollywood Baby Shower

Posted by editors

Designer hospital gowns, silver and gold pacifiers, these items and more could be found at the Boom Boom Room’s Hollywood Baby Shower this week in New York City. “Life & Style Expert” Jayneoni Moore throws kid parties with gift suites for celebrity parents before the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. This week she hit NYC for the network upfront’s (where TV people see what’s coming in the fall season). Free celebrity-endorsed baby mittens and nursing couture were flying off the trade show tables so fast it made you wonder if there wasn’t a recession going on.  Babble went to the scene to show you what the rich and famous get in those gift bags. - April Peveteaux

Most Outrageous: $950 Bassinet from Lulla Smith

Two words: JLo’s Nursery. The people who put together the crib and the bedding for little Max and Emme set up a replica for everyone to adore. Lulla Smith luxury baby linens are stunningly over the top. But even though it might be nice to live opulently, who puts so much silk next to a spitter-upper? That and a crazy ginormous bow apparently don't scare JLo, Courtney Cox or Katie Holmes.

Most Coveted: Shokay Kids Sweaters & Accessories

This Shokay Kids Paddington jacket made from yak wool was so cute that I was tempted to snatch it and run. The little mittens attach to the sweater sleeves with big old wood Grandma buttons! And this is one of those feel-good expensive products because not only are the materials green, Shokay has set up a knitting cooperative to give women in Tibet economic opportunities. And, all of the Shokay Kids products are hand-combed by Tibetan nomadic herders. Those herders who cannot afford their own yak, get help renting a yak so they can sell the wool to Shokay. No, I’ not making this up.

Runner-Up: Cuddles and Curtsies from Seven Smooches

Seven Smooches handmade recycled kiddie clothes are made from recycled wool, and therefore one-of-a-kind.  This multi-colored poncho doubles as a skirt and comes with a matching beret. Ridiculously soft and sweet.

Most Useful: Books from Little Scholastic

Scholastic was handing out a bag of the perfect beginner books from their Little Scholastic line. Petting Farm (shown above) is a touch and feel animal book and it comes with a DVD to help your little ones go interactive when they are identifying farm animals' oinks, neighs or moos.

Most Ridiculous: Unmentionable holders from TOMtotes (Time Of Month)

I always try to be discreet when dragging around my lady necessities in public. Wrapping up tampons in a Marimekko-esque tote screams, "Look at me! I've got my period!" However, these will make cute crayon holders for the kids.

For the Normal Mom: Robeez Footwear

Robeez was there with their soft leather baby shoes, and it was refreshing to see a practical, affordable option on display. But if you want to feel like a celebrity, pick a pair from the luxury collection as seen above.

Other companies participating included: Bear Hands, My Rock and Roll Baby, Happy Heinys, Larrivo, LAF, Innobaby, Jenerations Baby and many more.
