Baby Basics: The Swaddle Blanket

Posted by Erin Behan

Inspired by editor Gwynne Watkins' posts about what she loved the first week home with her baby, I thought I'd post a few of my favorite products. Up first, the swaddle blanket. I know there are many schools of thought on the swaddle blanket (velcro vs. old-school wrap), but the one we have been returning to again and again is from Giggle.

The set of two organic swaddle blankets ($34) is from Giggle's better basics line and is made from organic cotton. Interestingly only one of the two blankets in the set makes for a great swaddle (the colored one). Its super thin stretchy fabric (much thinner than most I've seen) helps wrap the little wriggly one super tight and won't make him or her too hot. The white blanket that comes with the set is more of a traditional, slightly thicker blanket, and while it's possible to swaddle your baby in it, we found ours to be more than capable of wriggling out of it. Stil, both blankets are a nice addition to any beginning parent's arsenal.

Check out more of my favorite baby basics.

That's one cute baby right there.

Guess I'm a little biased.

The rough cotton blankets with Bears and Balloons that they give out at Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles. I found I could really torque those ones down and keep my little Burrito snug.
