7 Days of Eco-Friendly Clothing: Seaweed Kimono

Posted by Lisa Mulcahy

Yes, you read the headline right, it’s a kimono and it’s made out of seaweed. Well not entirely, it’s actually 25% SeaCell and 75% organic cotton. SeaCell is a revolutionary new fabric made from seaweed. This company has taken it to the kiddie clothing market with its Baby Elephant Collection and is having a hard time keeping its wares in stock.

Future Factory Clothing, the makers of this cute kimono, $16, claim that since seaweed holds the beneficial elements of the ocean, the SeaCell fibers become a true source of minerals, proteins, amino acids, and vitamins, such as Vitamin A and E. But what does this have to do with the clothes? SeaCell fabric is supposed to re-mineralize the skin by releasing its bounty of minerals and vitamins onto the skin, even after repeated washing. Kinda sounds like a seaweed mask ala kimono for babies, but a whole a lot cheaper than a day at the spa.
