Audible, the online purveyor of audio books, has just launched a new web site for kids. Audible Kids sells audio versions of lots of your favorite children's books, from Pre-K to ages 13 and up. And just might start encouraging your kids to read while they're at it.
This idea isn't new (when I was a kid on long car trips, my sister and I used to love listening to those Disney cassette tapes where they would read along with a book) but in an age where placating children with portable video players is becoming the norm, it somehow seems revolutionary. The web site even allows you to set up an account for your child, where they can choose titles themselves and put them in a queue. The prices are kind of all over the place (for Pre-K, there are a lot of compilations off different books), but if you're loading your kid's iPod with movies or TV shows you might want to consider an audio book as well.
